hardware together and ready to go, here are the most efficient steps to take to replace your sliding
doors with bifold closet doors. These instructions are meant to be used as an informational guide only so that
you may become more aware of the process in which you will be involved.
If you have purchased paint grade closet doors and you need to paint or stain them to match your
room, complete this task before hanging your bifold closet doors. Once you have painted your closet doors and
they are ready to install, refer to your bifold closet door hardware guide for more detailed instructions.
You may need to make adjustments to these instructions if you have glass bifold doors, as this bifold door hardware guide is intended for wood closet
doors only.
You will have received a few small pieces with your closet door hardware.
Locate the pieces from which your bifold closet doors will hang and insert them into the track as indicated by
the diagram that came with your folding door hardware.
Installation of the bifold door track is rather
simple. Screw the track into the upper beam of your closet doorway using the screws included with your bifold
door hardware kit. Be sure not to tighten at this point, as installation of the folding door itself will be
easier.
In order to ensure proper installation, refer to your instruction booklet that came with your
bifold door hardware to get the exact measurements of your door and to find out the location at which you should
install the floor bracket. For a regular sized closet door that requires only one bifold door, the floor bracket
will go on one of 2 sides. Check with your bifold door hardware instructions for your specific location and
measurement.
If you require 2 bifold doors, you will need to affix the floor bracket in the exact center of
your closet. For help aligning the floor bracket perfectly, hang a plumb bob from the top center and mark the
bracket. This will ensure doors remain plumb during and after installation.
Now it's time to start putting together your door. Refer to your manufacturer's instructions for exact positioning,
but your top hinge should be 6-8 inches from the top of the door and your bottom hinge should be about 1 foot up
from the bottom.
For more guaranteed leveling, stand the bifold door panels on their sides in the order in which
they will hang. Measure the appropriate distance from the top of both doors and put 1 pencil mark on each door
in the same spot. Repeat the same action for the bottom of the doors. Once your spot has been properly marked,
you are ready to drill holes and mount the bifold door hinges.
The time during which you are affixing the hinges, check constantly to verify your doors remain
level with one another.
Following the instructions with your bifold door hardware, attach the bifold door onto the track
lining up each section with its corresponding piece of hardware. Once the door is hung, you may tighten the
track you left loose and attach any small pieces that are designed to keep your bifold door in tact and
functional.
If you followed the directions in your bifold door hardware packet correctly, your door should
be well hung, easy to open and close, and plush when it is fully closed. Your view of the inside of your closet
is now much more impressive, and you are able to see everything at a glance without having to close one side to
open the other. Even if you don't know anything about Johnson
bifold door hardware, you can do the simple job of installing bifold doors yourself! If you can follow
instructions and you want to replace your sliding door with bifold closet doors, you need bifold door hardware.
